The directors, teachers, assistants, instructors and service staff have been working together for many years. They are French, British, American, and also Australian, Canadian, Belgian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Chinese…
They have in common: competence, open-mindedness, a taste for success, a sense of responsibility, an awareness of contributing to the realisation of an ambitious project, and above all, the love of children.
A teacher’s role is two fold: He/she should impart knowledge whilst educating the mind to a level, that he/she judges necessary for this knowledge. If imparting knowledge is objective, education comes from the personality of the person, who is teaching. That is why the teaching staff must share the same educational values.
A school is a community in which 7 fundamental relationships are established.
1. The relationship between different members of staff in the school: ‘the team’.
2. The relationship between the staff and the parents.
3. The relationship between the staff and the children.
4. The relationship between the parents and children.
5. The relationships of children amongst themselves.
6. The relationships of parents amongst themselves.
7. The relationship with the outside world.
It is often difficult to harmonize such a structure and it is necessary to be vigilant at all times.
A simple misplaced remark, an omission, even if it is involuntary, a single misunderstood word can be enough to cause problems, the passionate nature of which determines the importance of the clash. One should be genuine, be oneself, and at the same time show respect for the organization of the community and its collective will, inherent in its complexity, above all individual wills: ‘ the soul of the group’. Thus, can we draw from the experience of each other to contain enthusiasm, to bring clashes, distortions, concerns into perspective.
When at CIPEC, we talk about bilingualism, we are not only speaking about the 'quality of a person who is fluent in two languages', but primarily about 'the quality of a person who, having received an education in two languages, has a plural faculty of integration.’
